Racism is becoming acceptable, says Boris Becker after MP insults son Noah

Boris Becker believes racism is becoming “socially acceptable” in Germany after a far-right MP who called the tennis champion’s eldest son a “little half-negro” was given only a modest rebuke by his party.

Defending the decision of his eldest son, Noah, to file a criminal complaint against Jens Maier, a member of Alternative for Germany (AfD), the three-times Wimbledon champion said there had been a “worrying shift to the right” as populists exploited the influx of more than a million asylum seekers since 2015.

In a tweet, which has since been deleted, Mr Maier criticised Noah Becker, 23, for describing Berlin as a “white city” in comparison to London and Paris and saying that he had suffered abuse because of his colour.
